Every parent wants to give their child the best head start possible when beginning their educational journey. Many often focus on subjects such as reading, math, and science and believe that they hold the most important concepts for their little ones. The art of music can be easily overlooked despite it’s incredible significance in your child’s learning process. We’ve asked one of our incredible BumoTeachers, Mr. Andy, to share how he believes that learning about music benefits your child. Mr. Andy teaches some of our favorite musical classes including Musical Adventure, Rock and Roll, Sing-A-Long Adventure, BumoBeats, and Mozart and Movements!
1. Music Helps Children Learn the Sounds and Meanings of Words
When mixed with familiar melodies, music greatly improves your child’s ability to learn how words sound and what they mean, especially during early childhood development. By hearing a catchy song multiple times, the lyrics will start to make sense in your child’s mind, due to the repetition of hearing and singing them. Music is a great way to introduce your child to new, unfamiliar words and sounds. Our Movers and Shakers class helps children recognize letters and numbers in a fun, musical environment! It’s perfect for ages 2-3 and is a great way for little ones to be introduced to educational concepts through music!
2. Music Allows Children to be Engaged and Relaxed
Music is so amazing for your child’s development because it encourages them to be engaged when it’s time to learn and socialize (verbally or nonverbally), yet it can also completely relax them when it’s time for rest. A great example of this is a child singing and dancing with their friends during circle time; they’re completely engaged and having fun, exploring their own creativity. At the end of a long day, however, their parents can sing them a lullaby and send them off to sleep in a matter of minutes. The kind of music that your child interacts with with largely determine their experience with it, so make sure to choose songs that fit your child’s needs!
3. Music Sparks Creativity at Every Age
It’s never too early to expose your child to music. Even a baby who moves while hearing music is using its own creative mind to form those movements. Whether you play classical music for your child, something more upbeat, or anything in between, listening to music and broadening their creative abilities will greatly benefit them throughout their learning journey because creativity is essential to every aspect of their education! Our Mozart and Movements class helps your child (ages 1-3) learn about classical music through dancing and movement and our Musical Adventure class (ages 1-3) strengthens their color, letter, and number recognition via musical stimulation.
No matter what stage of their educational journey your child is at, we offer plenty of different musical classes that will help promote their creativity, exploration, and overall development. If your child is interested in learning an instrument, we even offer BumoKeys, an introductory piano class where they will learn basic piano techniques and keys through practicing simple songs. Just remember, as long as your child is engaging with music in some capacity, it will be greatly advantageous to their growth, wellbeing, and education!
